Copies have been created by placing a thin sheet of carbon paper in between two sheets of standard paper. The carbon paper transferred the character to the sheet of frequent paper under it. The best sheet, which was imprinted generally, was the original and the bottom sheet was the carbon copy. The abbreviation CC that is nevertheless seen in e mail applications now is an abbreviation of ‘carbon copy’.
